Another O’Carolan air, this was a lament for Captain O’Kane, ‘hero of a hundred fights, from Landon to Oudenarde, who, when old and war-worn, tottered back from the Low Countries to his birthplace to die, and found himself…an outlawed, disinherited, homeless wanderer in the ancient territory that his fathers ruled as Lords of Limavady’ (O’Neill, Music of Ireland: Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Melodies, 1903).
A viola unearthed for this track turned out to be one string down on recording day. But worse things happen at sea, and the constraint of three strings proved just right for the sparse harmonies we wanted.

So pleased to see your second album on its way. I’ve just about worn a hole in your first CD because I love it so much. Cannae wait due the whole thing to appear on 4th May. The taster track is AWESOME!! 🙏 floradouglas

Love the complexity of this track and the rising and falling of the violins, and the texture. Makes me want to dance.
Thank you so much for this album. I really love it, and find it really inspiring my own work on the Witchcraft Trials ❤️ tararosehip
